We successfully manufactured a precision 6061 aluminum UAV heading arm for an unmanned aerial vehicle structural application. This large bent structural component features complex curved surfaces and an enclosed circular cavity — presenting significant machining challenges including stress-induced distortion during large bent structure machining, curved surface wall clean-out, finishing challenges on contoured surfaces, and machining confined enclosed circular cavities. Through stress-relief machining sequences, specialized toolpath strategies, vibration control, and custom tooling, we delivered dimensionally stable heading arms with clean, finished surfaces.
| Project Name | 6061 UAV Heading Arm |
| Key Metric | Specification |
| Dimensional Tolerance | ±0.02mm (critical interface and mounting features) |
| Surface Roughness | Ra≤1.6μm (curved surfaces) |
| Corner Radius (Curved Walls) | ≤0.5mm (clean internal corners) |
| Flatness | ≤0.01mm (mounting surfaces) |
| Material | Aluminum 6061-T6 |
| Surface Treatment | As-machined |
| Machining Process | Precision CNC milling |
Each component underwent comprehensive inspection using CMM measurement for dimensional accuracy (±0.02mm) and flatness (≤0.01mm), supplemented by surface roughness testing (Ra≤1.6μm) and visual inspection for corner quality, surface finish, and distortion.
This solution demonstrates our expertise in precision UAV structural component manufacturing, ideal for:
