We manufactured a large 6060 aluminum valve body (AVP01-ISOK160-LMDA-01) for an industrial vacuum equipment application. This large-scale component requires complex internal geometry with smooth surfaces essential for vacuum sealing integrity — a requirement that conventional 3-axis machining cannot reliably achieve due to the part's size and geometric complexity. Large valve bodies with tight sealing requirements benefit significantly from 5-axis machining, which provides three key advantages: single-setup machining eliminates repositioning errors, continuous optimized toolpaths maintain ideal cutting angles for superior surface finish even in contoured areas, and reduced cumulative tolerance stacking ensures higher overall accuracy across the large geometry [citation:6]. Through 5-axis milling, we achieved the required internal surface finish for vacuum sealing while maintaining the part's structural integrity.
